Stevens, John Paul
(n. 20 abr. 1920, Chicago, Ill., EE.UU.).

Jurista estadounidense. Estudió derecho en la Northwestern University y trabajó como asistente en la Corte Suprema de los Estados Unidos de América antes de incorporarse a un estudio jurídico de Chicago, donde se especializó en derecho antimonopolios, dedicándose a la vez a la enseñanza y al desempeño de diversos cometidos públicos. Fue destinado a una Corte de Apelaciones de circuito del sistema federal (1970) por el pdte. Richard Nixon y propuesto para ocupar un cargo en la Corte Suprema por el pdte. Gerald Ford (1975). Aunque inicialmente fue percibido como conservador, demostró ser un liberal moderado; en efecto, a medida de que el tribunal se hizo más conservador en la década de 1980 y comienzos de la década de 1990, luego de las designaciones del pdte. Ronald Reagan y del pdte. George Bush, Stevens se convirtió quizás en su miembro más liberal.
